Public transportation is a MUST in Istanbul. The traffic in the large city is awful during rush hours in the morning and afternoon. So, forget about sending your kids to school or getting to work on time with your own car! Your best bet is Public transportation in Istanbul. Unfortunately, with the inflation going the way its going, we see price changes in Turkey almost every other week. Not so long ago I posted the new price changes for public transportation, parking spaces and even graves in Istanbul. Here we are again for 2023.
Istanbul's Transportation Coordination Center (UKOME) announced new prices of public transportation for 2023. Starting on Jan 1st 2023, Istanbul's public transportation will be hit with a 29.1% increase in fees!!! Is this too much? Yes it is. From Jan 1st 2023, you will be paying 9.9TL for one pass. Of course, Istanbul imposed this year’s first raise in mass transit fees in February, implementing hikes up to 92% for card purchases.
Taxi prices also went up in Istanbul. Prices for 2023 will be 8.5 TL per kilometer, and the minimum of 40TL for short distances. This is a 42% rise!
Minibuses are also getting a fee increase in 2023. Dulmus fee will be 7TL!!!
Student passes are still affordable in Istanbul in 2023, However, the school buses will get a 20% price increase.
With all this increases, what's the minimum salary in Turkey, you might ask? Its 5000 TL! Soon I have to write about can you afford to live in Turkey in 2023!? (I assume the answer is no).
