Why is it called the blue mosque?
Sultan Ahmed Mosque is referred to as the blue mosque because it is decorated with thousands of blue and white Iznik tiles. This design give the interior of the mosque a blue color. It also has blue stained windows. Apparently, this color was not only chosen for its beauty, but also its significance in Islam. The color blue symbolizes heaven and sky, giving the mosque a more spiritual vibe.

Now, the mosque will be open for prayers just in time for the end of Ramadan prayer, known as Ramazan Bayram Prayer. The blue mosque is scheduled to open back up on April 21st, 2023
