How to take your pet to Turkey with you

It can be hard leaving without your beloved pet. But before you just pack a bag and carry your pet in your arms, you must know the following rules and regulations.

Be advised that the regulations change over time! Be sure to check with your travel agents or the airline you are flying with prior to making plans.
Most of the regulations apply only to dogs, cats and ferrets!

    Microchip
Every pet entering Turkey must have a microchip with ISO standard 11784 or Annex A to ISO standard 11785!

    Medical info and Vaccines
APHIS 7001 form must be filled 10 days before your departure.
4 weeks before your travel, your dog must be vaccinated for the following: parainfluenza, leptospirosis, parvovirus, Bordetella, rabies, hepatitis and distemper.
Cats need to be vaccinated for calicivirus, panleukopenia, feline viral rhinotracheitis, and rabies.

There are some breeds that are banned from entering turkey:
Rottweilers, Pitbull, bull terriers, American Staffordshire, Japanese Tosa, Neapolitan mastiff, Spanish mastiff, dogue de brodeux, roman fighting dog, bandog tosa inu, Tibetan mastiff, all mongrel breeds!

You should also have a special crate for your pet. according to Turkish airlines, this crate can be a maximum of 23 cm (height) x 30 cm (width) x 40 cm (length).

You are also required to obtain a health certificate for your animal. if you are travelling from USA or Canada, your certificate must be CFIA or USDA approved. you have to get this certificate 10 days prior to your flight.

Animals under 3 months of age need to travel with their parents as long as the parent pet has gotten all the certifications.

To avoid paying taxes on your pets, the owner of the pet must be present at customs.

Again, be sure to check with your travel agents and airline. the rules might also change based on your country of origin.
