Now, city of Mardin in southeastern Turkey is planning to distribute gluten free bread to those who need it. Mardin is an agricultural center in Turkey due to its very fertile plains. The city of Mardin has dedicated 10 acres of these lands to growing buckwheat to be turned into bread for gluten free diets.
In the trial phase of the harvest, Mardin province collected 650 kilograms of buckwheat. The program is jointly carried out by the municipality, local agriculture authority and agricultural research institutes. Mardin is planning to distribute this bread for free to patients in the province.
