    Sparta province is located in the southwest of Turkey. This province attracts tourists with historical attractions such as the ancient city of Sagalassos and natural attractions such as Eğirdir Lake. This province, which is located in the southwestern region, is bordered by Afion Qarahesar province in the northwest, Bordur province in the southwest, Antalya province in the south, and Konya province in the east. The capital of this province is called Sparta.


    The population of Sparta province is 428 thousand people and its area is 9 square kilometers. The religion of the majority of the people of the province is Islam, which is divided into two religions, Sunni and Shia. The language of the inhabitants of Sparta is Turkish.

    A little history of the Sparta province,
    Saljoughi Turks occupied the city of Sparta, which is the current center of the province, in 1203. At the end of the 13th century, Sparta became part of the Hamidiyah Empire, and in 2001, the Amir of Hamidiyah sold this region to King Murad I of the Ottoman Empire. At the end of the 19th century, Muslim refugees from the Balkan countries settled in Sparta. Bulgarian refugees brought their knowledge of rose-making to this region, and from then on, Sparta became known as the city of roses.

    How is the weather in Sparta?
    Winters in Sparta are cold and rainy and summers are hot and dry. The lakes in this province have a great influence on the climate of this region. The most rainfall occurs in January and December, and the average temperature varies between 6 and 18 degrees Celsius throughout the year.

    Main form of transportation to and from the province of Sparta is by roads. highways have been extended to cities such as Konya, Afion, Karahesar, and Antalya. With the reopening of Sparta Suleiman Demirel Airport, daily flights to major cities in Turkey will take place. The rail transportation system is also available in this province, which has a much lower quality than road transportation.

    The province of Sparta is famous for its handicrafts such as handwoven carpets and felts.
