How is the weather in January in Istanbul?

The weather in Istanbul is pleasant over all seasons, or at least it is to me. It is cold in Jan in Istanbul, however, it is not freezing at all. You might experience snowfall, or a bit of rain, but nothing too heavy. You can expect daytime temperatures to average around the 7.2°C (45°F) mark, and drop to around 6.6°C (44°F) at night. My winter coat is warm enough that I don't need to button it up otherwise I would overheat! Istanbul is a bit hilly and if you are walking around, you will be warm that's for sure. Sometimes it can get windy too. 12 MPH winds can make it seem a bit more chilly.
