Patara Beach, the largest beach in Turkey and the northern Mediterranean, is a beautiful and relaxing beach that is a unique experience to see.
The 12-mile, untouched beach of Patara is Turkey's largest beach. This beach owes its lack of development to the ancient remains in this area, as well as the spawning of turtles, which has been happening on this beach for 40 million years.
History of the Beach
This beach was discovered centuries before Christ and quickly became known as the largest port of Lycia. The Temple of Apollo, which is located here, attracts many people every year for pilgrimage as well as visits.
Attractions
This beach is known for its beautiful and unique landscape as well as the swimming opportunities. Located in the middle of a national park, it is home to a variety of bird species, and the Red Turtle, which is an endangered species and lays its eggs here. Also, due to the presence of endangered turtles, this area is highly vulnerable and therefore not many changes have taken place in it. From May to October, the beach is closed from 6 pm to provide a quiet place for turtles to lay their eggs in peace.
This beach is covered with sand and its end reaches mountainous areas. In its corner there is also a swamp that used to be the bay of this beach back in the day. The beautiful historical monuments are only 15 minutes away from this beach and it is not crowded even in the hottest months of the year.
Since this beach is underdeveloped it is always calm and quiet. There is a café just at the end of the road leading to the beach, which provides the equipment needed for sunbathing.
In 2006, the government decided to make it possible to get to the beach by buying a ticket, and for $ 1.5 you can get a ticket both to get to the beach and to visit historical sites.
The closest resort to this beach (except for the village of Patara) is Kalan, which in the busy seasons makes it possible to get to and from Kalan to Patara by minibus with cheap tickets. The minibuses stop right next to the beach.
Of course, there are other hotels and resorts near the beach and a short distance from it, depending on their cost and conditions, you can choose one of them.
