Do not park your scooters on sidewalk in Istanbul

Istanbul, which was proud of its scooters, apparently is now sick of the scooters. Scooters, public bikes etc. come and go apparently in Istanbul and every month there seems to be an other regulation added for scooters. You thought there was already an everything to know about scooters in Istanbul article in yabancitalk, and you are right. But apparently there is now more to it.

District of Kadıköy is now sick of scooters and people who use them apparently. "not a day goes by that these scooters do not crash and injure a citizen" is the official statement regarding the scooters. There are major complaints about scooters being parked on the sidewalk and blocking passage for the elderly and the disabled. So, what is going to be done about scooters parked on the sidewalks in Istanbul? the picture is self explanatory:

Your scooter's lock will be cut and the scooter itself be confiscated by the authorities. The scooter will be moved to a warehouse and the owner have to go and collect it if they want it back, that is, after paying the fine. This is only a step for Istanbul in adding more regulation to the scooters in the big city. The city, that I should add, has huge traffic problems on daily basis.

So now you might wonder if these scooters were such a big problem, why wait until now? well my friends, the answer is simple: A scooter hit a city council member recently, and the council member had to be admitted to a hospital for 3 days!😥
Stay tuned for more regulations and fines to come.
