    Cultural calender of Turkey, what is going on in 2023?

    2023 just started, and hopefully it's going to be full of wonders. This is also the case for Turkey when it comes to its own unique culture. Some holidays are a bit more universal, like Christmas. However, there are some events that are unique to every culture. Here we are going to get to know some Turkeys upcoming cultural events in 2023.

    January: Camel wrestling
    This month, in Jan 2023, The travelling camel wrestling season have already happened, so we are a bit late. This is one of Turkey's highly anticipated events. The wrestling camels are considered prized possessions. They are decorated with colorful and wonderful accessories.
    Hopefully you get to enjoy this event next year in 2024.

    February: Month of Love
    February is usually associated with Valentine's Day. Valentine's Day is not officially celebrated in Turkey, but it is celebrated culturally. This means you have to prepare some gifts for your loved ones.

    March: Ramadan
    This year, the holy month of Ramadan will take place in March. It will begin on March 23 till April 21. Have you ever wondered what happens during Ramadan in Turkey? Well, you are in luck. If you want to know what to do in Ramadan in Turkey, check our article on the subject.

    April: festivities
    Most popular festivals of Turkey take place in April. They are the Alaçatı Herb Festival and the Urla Artichoke Festival, and both are spectacular. These events last for days, so you can have your fill. Cooking competitions, decorating the streets and seminars and concerts will take place. Also, the end of Ramadan is celebrated this year in April.

    May:Hıdırellez
    May first celebrates Labor and Solidarity in Turkey. Schools, post offices and government buildings will be closed on this day.
    The most exciting celebration in May however is Hıdırellez, which takes place over the evening of Friday, May 5 to the next day evening.
    May 19 is the youth and sports day, a day when people of Turkey celebrate and remember their beloved president, Ataturk.

    June: Feast of Sacrifice
    Its a muslim holiday mostly. it's known as Kurban Bayramı, it last from June 28 to July first.

    On July, Oil wrestling will take place. This will be the 662nd competition of oil wrestling.

    August, is Victory day in Turkey.

    October is a month to celebrate the Republic of Turkey. public holiday with official buildings, schools and post offices closing mid-day on Oct. 28 and remaining closed on the 29.

    Finally, December, is dedicated to Rumi. Mevlana week, which will be held from Dec. 7 to 17, is one of the highlights of December.
