Taxis in Istanbul are a never ending topic here on Yabancitalk. From the constant rising of prices, to price gouging of taxi drivers, to the non-stop demand of taxi drivers for the city to increase their fares. Now, in order to help passengers identify available taxis on the street, Istanbul municipality has made a new decision.

Taxis in Istanbul are now required to have lighted signs on their roofs to identify whether they are occupied or not. You'd think this was a no-brainer, but here we are, witnessing the reinvention of the wheel by IBB.
The lights will read "full" if there are passengers in the vehicle, and "empty" if there are no passengers. Wow, innovation.
This new change will be implemented within 3 months. This amazing change is expected to help passengers and reduce their complaints, and I quote "Moreover, the system is not harmful to taxi drivers either ".
An additional change that is proposed is implementing a button in the taxi that allows communication between the passenger and a driver. When the button is pressed, and S.O.S sign will appear on the driver side, letting them know the passenger is in distress.
