YÖK, or the council of higher education of Turkey, started a new program to entice doctoral students and researchers to conduct research at an international standard and level. YÖK is trying to improve the level of research in turkey's universities that were ranked among the world's top 700 in the last 3 years. The incentive , of course, comes in the shape of financial aid for international Ph.D. studies to research assistants or faculty members who have completed their doctoral studies in Turkish higher education institutions.

If you want to pursue post doctoral studies overseas, YOK has got you covered too. Priority goes to physics, chemistry, biology and mathematics majors however. You'll be sent overseas for maximum of 9 month for your postdoctoral studies. YÖK will provide monthly financial assistance of TL 20,000 (around $1,050) to those selected to go abroad and an additional transportation allowance of TL 10,000.

Who can receive the research assistance?
If you are a Turkish citizen, currently employed as research assistant or lecturer, or have received your doctoral degree at a state higher education institute within the past 3 years. You also need to pass a language proficiency test!
