I have been going out a lot recently in Istanbul doing shopping and stuff. Honestly, I came to realize that the best shopping experience in Istanbul isn't in its fancy malls, it is in the local weekly markets. It is the same thing when it comes to fruits and veggies. You can of course go to supermarkets, or order online from Getir or other services. But you'll come to see that although the produce you buy there is ok on the surface, but its not even close to what you'll find in a Wednesday market for example. So, with that out of the way, where are the best farmers' markets in Istanbul?
Şişli's farmers' market
The farmers' market in sisli is known as Feriköy Organik Pazar. As the name suggests it is an organic produce market. They have a vast selection of veggies, nuts, fruits and dairy products. Not only the market is colorful, but the neighborhood it is located, Bomonti, in shares the same characteristics. The market is open on Saturdays from 7 am to 5 pm! This is the best farmers' market you can find in Istanbul for sure. But, if you want, you can give these other places a try too.
There is a farmers' market in Kartal which is held every Friday. Bakırköy bazar and Izmit bazar are worth a try as well, they are both held on Saturdays.
There are also a few traditional weekly bazaars that you can find great produce in as well.
Ortaköy Sosyete Pazarı is one these traditional markets. what this means is that these markets have everything from fruits and veggies to kitchen appliances and towels.
it is located in the Levazım neighborhood. This huge traditional market have almost 1000 stalls in it where vendors set up their shops. You can go to this market on Thursdays from 8 am to 8 pm.
An other traditional market you might enjoy is the Kadıköy Salı Pazarı. It is located near Hasanpaşa and has its own dedicated parking! It is held on Tuesdays and Fridays from morning till night fall. You can even find a nice flea market in Kadıköy Salı Pazarı.
