Bicycles offer a myriad of benefits in urban settings, contributing to healthier, more sustainable, and vibrant cities. First and foremost, they provide an eco-friendly mode of transportation, reducing carbon emissions and alleviating traffic congestion. The health benefits are undeniable, promoting physical activity and combating sedentary lifestyles. Economically, cycling infrastructure investments can boost local businesses and enhance the overall urban environment. Initiated in 2009 and officially launched in 2013, İSBIKE has flourished, boasting 1500 bikes across 140 stations. While predominantly situated on the European side, there's no shortage on the Asian side. Recognizable by their distinctive blue and white hues, İSBIKE stations house 10-20 bikes, perfect for short-term rentals to explore the city. Most stations align with waterfront paths, providing a scenic and uninterrupted biking experience.

Manufactured by Baksi, the bikes boast a uniform design—3 gears, aluminum step-through frame, 26” tires with mud fenders, adjustable seat, and a front basket. Although lacking rear racks or lights, some models feature automatic flashing lights at night. Helmets aren't provided at rental stations.

For pricing, İSBIKE offers yearly membership plans (Plus and Standard) with varying free minutes and pay-as-you-go options. The Plus plan provides 30 free minutes every two hours, ideal for short commutes. Both yearly plans use a rechargeable balance, while the pay-as-you-go option charges against a credit card with a refundable deposit.

Finding a station is made easy through the İSBIKE website, providing live updates on bike and dock availability. The rental process begins at the tower terminal, available in English and Turkish. While the process isn't intuitive, support is offered via Whatsapp or a helpline. The tower terminal allows balance checking, history viewing, and bike rental, with a one-time code sent to your phone to unlock the bike from the dock.

Alternatively, the İSBIKE app (android - IOS) streamlines the process, allowing balance top-up, code retrieval, and station location tracking. While İSBIKE accommodates foreign credit cards, a Turkish cell phone number is required. Despite occasional terminal issues, the app offers a smoother experience.
