As a mostly Muslim country, Ramadan is practiced in turkey. If you are not aware what Ramadan is: it is a 30 day period during which Muslims fast from the morning prayer and break their fast after the sundown prayer. In some countries, restaurants and shops will be closed during the fasting time and eating is prohibited outside. this prohibition could result in an arrest or other form of punishments if broken.

However! Ramadan in Turkey is a bit different than other countries. Since Turkey is one of the most liberal Islamic countries in the world, the strict Ramadan rules enforced in other places such as Dubai and Iran are not enforced. If you visit Turkey during Ramadan and stick to tourist areas, you might not even know that it is happening!
with a few exceptions, restaurants are open during this time.
tourist attractions will also stay open. however, if you are planning to visit the Mosques, you must plan accordingly as not to disrupt noon or afternoon prayers.
You can also eat or drink while you are outside! HOWEVER, it is more respectful to not do so. if you have to eat or drink, especially if Ramadan is during summer when you are visiting, do it discreetly.
You are still able to drink alcohol during Ramadan as well.
The only thing that you need to maybe be concerned about is being awakened for the morning breakfasts! There is this old tradition that is somehow still practiced in Turkey that two people will roam the streets with drums and shouting, waking people up so they do not skip breakfast and morning prayer during Ramadan! So if you struggle to fall back asleep, you might not like this tradition.
