Will Turkey's clocks change in winter for daylight saving?

As winter envelops Turkey, discussions about the continuation of daylight saving time (DST) have resurfaced. Energy and Natural Resources Minister Alparslan Bayraktar recently affirmed that Turkey will maintain DST, dispelling any notions of transitioning to winter time.

Minister Bayraktar highlighted the historical context of DST in Turkey, noting decisions made in 1940 to align DST dates with Europe. The intermittent application of DST between 1962 and 1972 paralleled the current practice. Türkiye shifted to continuous daylight saving time from 1978 to 1984, adjusting thereafter for better synchronization with Western standards. Responding to deputies' inquiries at the General Assembly, Bayraktar emphasized the comprehensive examination conducted in 2015 with Istanbul Technical University. A committee of 11 academics, including experts from various disciplines, explored the impact of DST on energy efficiency. Bayraktar questioned the challenges faced in Türkiye compared to other European cities, citing examples like the sunrise times in Istanbul, Paris, and Berlin.

Additionally, Minister Bayraktar addressed the matter of oil production in Gabar, revealing that daily output had reached approximately 30 thousand barrels. He expressed the government's commitment to intensify efforts, aiming to elevate production to 100,000 barrels by the end of 2024
