Engineer Girls Project aims to close the gender gap in Turkey

Social Services Minister Mahinur Özdemir Göktaş announced on Monday that the "Engineer Girls Project" in Türkiye has successfully reached 54,931 female students. This initiative aims to bridge the gender gap in engineering fields by supporting and encouraging female students from high school to university, thus nurturing their entry and advancement in engineering careers. The project, spanning 125 high schools and involving 931 university students, has been ongoing since 2016 under the ministry's leadership and private sector collaboration. Göktaş highlighted the completion of the first phase in December 2021 and the continuation of the second phase from 2022 to 2024. She emphasized the project's role in increasing female students' interest in engineering and outlined its components, including specialized programs for different engineering fields, internship opportunities, language education, certification programs, mentorship, coaching, and scholarships. Göktaş concluded by stating the project's significant impact in empowering aspiring female engineers, with graduates finding employment opportunities within the sector through project partner companies.
