Turkey, like many other countries, has fines and punishments in place for preventing people from driving under the influence of alcohol.

According to Article 48 of the Traffic Law, drivers who drink alcohol while driving or drive drunk will be given a promille test by the police. Based on the test, their alcohol level and number of times they have been pulled over for drunk driving, their fine will be different.
The acceptable alcohol level for personal vehicles is 0.5and for other vehicles 0.2 on the promille test.
Those whose test score is higher than 0.5 will be fined and their driver's license will be suspended, and if the test score is more than 1, they will be sentenced to 2 to 3 years in prison according to Article 179 of the Turkish Penal Code.
If they are fined for the first time, the license will be confiscated for six months and they will not be able to use the fined vehicle for up to six months. The fine is 1823 lira.
If they are fined for the second time, they will have to pay a fine of 2287 lira and the certificate will be confiscated for two years. The vehicle will also be banned.
The fine for the third time is 3675 lira and the certificate will be confiscated for 5 years, and if the duration of the fine from the second to the third time is less than 6 months, according to the police decision, the offender may be imprisoned for up to 6 months.
